World Population Day, celebrated on July 11th, sheds light on the challenges posed by the increasing global population. Transitioning to clean energy addresses these challenges by meeting energy demands, mitigating climate change, protecting health, and ensuring sustainable development.

In this July newsletter, we feature our latest blog posts, present data from SIPET's Power Sector Snapshots, share energy-related news and policy developments in Southeast Asia, feature an energy transition champion, share employment opportunities, and re-introduce SIPET's tools and resources.

Energy Transition Spotlight

In the latest video of the “Humans of the Energy Transition- Thailand” campaign by CASE for Southeast Asia, Natpathzorn Kritsiri-oran, an ICU nurse, provides the view from hospitals where continuous electricity supply is important for critical patients, such as those who are on ventilators. She also talks about air pollution and possible health impacts of continuing to burn fossil fuels for energy.

Toolbox

SIPET is an open-access platform envisioned and designed to support energy transition stakeholders to share and gain insights, resources, and knowledge to create a holistic picture of the energy transition in the region.

SIPET offers tools and resources developed to help clean energy professionals understand the current state of energy systems in Southeast Asia, identify areas for improvement, and track progress over time. They also support to identify best practices, innovations, and emerging technologies that can be adopted and scaled to support the energy transition.

ABOUT CASEThe Project "Clean, Affordable, and Secure Energy for Southeast Asia (CASE)" aims to shift the energy sector narrative in Southeast Asia towards an evidence-based clean energy transition, with the aim to increase political ambition to comply with the Paris Agreement. SIPET is part of an effort by CASE to accomplish the shift of the energy sector narrative by supporting: (a) research and evidence, (b) transparency and mapping, (c) dialogue with non-energy sector stakeholders, (d) technical assistance on clean energy, and (e) promoting public discourse on the energy transition.CASE is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK), and jointly implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH and international and local expert organisations in the area of sustainable energy transformation and climate change: Agora Energiewende and NewClimate Institute (regional level), the Institute for Essential Services Reform (IESR) in Indonesia, the Institute for Climate and Sustainable Cities (ICSC) in the Philippines, the Energy Research Institute (ERI) and Thailand Development Research Institute (TDRI) in Thailand.
