Reaching Out for the Energy Transition

Welcome to the September issue of SIPET Connect. In this edition, we explore the important role of outreach in accelerating Southeast Asia’s clean energy transition. While research, data, and policy frameworks lay the foundation, it is essential that these elements are brought to life through meaningful engagement with communities, and especially with youth. As the region strives to achieve its decarbonization goals, we highlight the need for on-the-ground activities and initiatives that make the energy transition not just an abstract concept, but a tangible everyday reality for Southeast Asians.

In this issue we:

  • Describe how you can join the call to demand clean air action in Southeast Asia
  • Feature a photo story from SIPET’s on-the-ground activities at the recent Indonesia Sustainable Energy Week (ISEW)
  • Share key insights on global energy trends from CASE Insights at EPPO Capacity Building Program
  • Share the final video in the ‘Humans of Energy Transition’ series that brings stories on energy transition in the lives of ordinary people in Bangkok
  • Include a feature article on trends toward scaling up corporate decarbonization in Southeast Asia, which provides a sneak peek into the Southeast Asia Corporate Decarbonization Exchange (CDx), which will be launched in Bangkok this October
Beyond the Haze: Join the Demand to ‘Invest in #CleanAirNow’
Clean air is essential for life, yet millions suffer due to harmful pollution every day. The CASE for Clean Air campaign encourages communities, businesses, and governments to transition to renewable energy and reduce harmful emissions. This is your chance to join the movement. Share your voice and take action to ensure a cleaner, healthier Southeast Asia.

Energy Transition Spotlight

In this final episode of Humans of Energy Transition series by CASE for Southeast Asia, Yote Woraveerawong, a home owner in Thailand, talks about transitioning his home from the EGAT electrical system to a 5KW On Grid Solar System on his roof, saving 1,500 baht per month on electricity. Initially driven by his passion for energy and technology, he attended solar cell training, and believes that “In the future, clean energy is the solution, eliminating the need for fossil fuels”.

Toolbox

SIPET is an open-access platform envisioned and designed to support energy transition stakeholders to share and gain insights, resources, and knowledge to create a holistic picture of the energy transition in the region.
