Bridging the Gap between Green Ambitions and Economic Realities

As Southeast Asia’s clean energy transition gains momentum, the region faces a tough question: How do we scale up renewables while ensuring financial viability?

In this issue of SIPET Connect, we delve into the pivotal role of transition finance in bridging the gap between green ambitions and economic realities. In the latest edition of our Transition Finance series, Anouj Mehta, Director of the Asian Development Bank’s (ADB) Thailand Resident Mission, shares insights on unlocking private capital and structuring effective financial solutions to drive sustainability.

March also marks International Women’s Day—a powerful reminder that a truly sustainable energy transition must be an inclusive one. In this issue, we spotlight CASE for Southeast Asia’s latest blog on gender equality in the energy sector. From policy recommendations to industry-led initiatives, this piece underscores why inclusivity must be at the heart of the energy transition.

Also in this issue, you can learn and read the following:
🔹 How Indonesia’s 333 GW renewable energy potential is financially viable;
🔹 What Luzon Island’s early 2025 yellow alert signals for the Philippines grid during this dry season;
🔹 What is the ultimate tool to track the growth of wind energy in Southeast Asia; and
🔹 Review curated job postings, events, and publications that may be of interest to you and your organization

We hope that this issue offers meaningful insights to support your work!

#AccelerateAction: Powering Gender Equality Through Energy Sector Transformationn
In recognition of International Women’s Day, we showcase the potential to advance gender equality while accelerating the clean energy transition. The blog outlines key actions that policymakers, educators, and industry leaders can take to promote a more inclusive and equitable energy sector.

Key takeaways:

  • Energy transformation = gender transformation: The shift to renewables isn’t just about sustainability; it’s a chance to close gender gaps.
  • Breaking barriers in leadership: Women hold just 8% of energy jobs in ASEAN, with even fewer in senior roles. Inclusive policies and workplace support are key.
  • Policy and finance solutions: Gender-responsive policies, targeted funding, and inclusive hiring practices can accelerate change.
