Strengthening Regional Ties to Shape Southeast Asia’s Energy Future

Welcome to the May 2025 edition of SIPET Connect

We continue to see growing momentum behind Southeast Asia’s clean energy transition, with governments, industry, and development partners scaling solutions that are both ambitious and inclusive. As countries across the region pursue their goals for sustainability and climate (NDCs), success will depend on innovation, investment, integrated policies, equitable financing, and coordinated regional action.

This month, we spotlight the role of the CASE project in strengthening regional energy integration at the EU-ASEAN Workshop, and we also preview an upcoming session at the Asia Clean Energy Forum (ACEF 2025) at which our SIPET team will talk about how digital tools can support a just energy transition.

Whether you're looking to contribute, collaborate, or grow your work in this space, our Noticeboard features curated job opportunities, events, and calls for proposals across Southeast Asia.

Stay informed, stay engaged—and help shape the region’s clean energy future.

The Clean, Affordable, and Secure Energy for Southeast Asia (CASE) project, funded by Germany’s International Climate Initiative (IKI), participated in the first EU-ASEAN Technical Energy Workshop held on 8–9 April 2025 in Bangkok. The event together more than 70 policymakers, technical experts, and energy leaders to focus on strengthening regional cooperation to build a sustainable, integrated energy system. CASE contributed insights in the areas of power system integration, energy transition strategies, and the need for harmonized policies to advance cross-border electricity trade.

The discussions highlighted market-based approaches to grid interconnectivity, renewable energy integration, and collaborative planning. A field visit to EGAT’s Demand Response Control Centre showcased real-world applications. CASE’s engagement underscores its commitment to supporting the ASEAN Power Grid initiative and promoting a resilient and sustainable energy future for Southeast Asia.

SIPET at the Asia Clean Energy Forum 2025

The Southeast Asia Information Platform for the Energy Transition (SIPET) will be featured at the upcoming Asia Clean Energy Forum (ACEF)'s Deep Dive Workshop on "Digital Innovations for a Just Energy Transition," hosted by ADB and GIZ on Friday, 6 June 2025. This session will offer participants an overview of SIPET’s enhanced digital tools, including the new Power Policy Tracker, which monitors energy policy developments across Southeast Asia, and the Project Mapping Tool, now updated with over 150 new energy projects. The session will also delve into how data-driven tools can support a more just and inclusive energy transition.
